Epic Pools, Jungle Adventures, And Amazing Food: Why Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort & Spa Is The Ultimate Riviera Maya Getaway

Share The Article

I travel constantly, and finding a resort that strikes the perfect balance between high-end relaxation and actual fun can be surprisingly difficult. You usually have to compromise on something. The food is mediocre, the transit time eats up half your day, or the pool scene is entirely dead by sunset… it happens more often than you think.

My wife Liz and I just returned from Puerto Morelos, and I can confidently say we found a property that checks every single box. If you want the convenience of flying into Cancun but absolutely despise the overcrowded, shoulder-to-shoulder chaos of the Hotel Zone, Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort & Spa is the exact sweet spot.

Even better: I had the chance to stay at this resort, and we are also giving one of our readers the chance to enjoy this exact same vacation spot for free! Stay tuned to the end of the article to find out how to enter.

From the amazing food and wild waterslides to ripping ATVs through the jungle, here is an in-depth look at our stay and why this resort needs to be on your radar.

The 25-Minute Miracle: Skipping the Transit Nightmare

I cannot stand landing in Mexico, clearing customs, and then having to sit in a crowded shuttle van for two hours, stopping at six other resorts before finally reaching the lobby. That is the absolute beauty of Puerto Morelos.

After we grabbed our bags and cleared customs at Cancun International Airport, we walked right outside to the transportation area and immediately spotted our Amstar DMC driver in his signature royal blue polo shirt. We bypassed the chaotic taxi lines, jumped in our transfer, and were pulling into the resort lobby just 20 to 25 minutes later. That proximity is a convenience you don’t get very often.

Our room wasn’t quite ready because we got there a bit early, but there was a guacamole-making class that we jumped right into for a good time (plus a snack!). By the time we wrapped up, our room was ready, and it did NOT disappoint.

When it was sadly time to head home, the logistics were just as seamless. We were lucky enough to get late checkout and our Amstar transfer didn’t pick us up at the lobby until 2:30 PM, giving us a few extra hours to soak up the sun without feeling rushed to the airport.

The Ultimate Suite Setup

When we finally walked into our room, we were completely blown away.

We stayed in a Preferred Club Master Suite Ocean Front room that was honestly bigger than some apartments I’ve rented. The layout was perfect—we had a great, dedicated area where we could sit and eat, and a full living room area complete with a pull-out couch.

Having two full bathrooms was an absolute luxury, but the master bathroom was the real star of the show. It was giant and featured a Jacuzzi tub that we definitely took full advantage of after our travel day. The separate bedroom itself was huge, incredibly comfy, and gave us the perfect quiet space to recharge.

Pools, Waterparks, and Pure Fun

The pool complex here is sprawling and top-tier. Sometimes luxury resorts take themselves too seriously and forget to actually be fun, but the vibe here is incredible. The main pool was fantastic, and we absolutely loved hanging out at the swim-up bar to grab a quick drink.

If you are traveling with the family, there is a dedicated waterpark with legitimately awesome slides that kids would completely obsess over. But because Liz and I were on an adults’ trip, we also spent a lot of time tucked away in the adults-only pool, which is perfectly situated in its own quiet corner of the property.

The real pro-move for this resort, though, is booking the Preferred Club. Upgrading to this level gives you access to a pool that is completely exclusive to Preferred Club guests, plus the ability to reserve private Bali beds. Liz and I spent hours just lounging there, entirely insulated from the typical scramble of trying to “save” a pool chair early in the morning.

Butler Magic and Top-Tier Amenities

Having a dedicated butler is a massive Preferred Club perk that completely changes the rhythm of your day. Instead of wasting time standing in line at a concierge desk to figure out our schedule, our butler handled the logistics for us behind the scenes. They seamlessly coordinated our complimentary hydrotherapy access over at the Dreams Spa, allowing us to just show up, decompress, and enjoy the water circuits.

Being a Preferred Club guest also grants you access to the exclusive Preferred Club Lounge. We stopped in frequently because it is fully stocked with top-shelf, premium liquor that is completely included in your stay.

We are also huge sticklers for hotel gyms because we lift weights five days a week, so we always check out the fitness center. I am thrilled to report that the gym here is super well-equipped. We were able to run through our normal, heavy workout routine without a single piece of equipment missing. They even have an on-site escape room (which costs a little extra, but is a super unique breakout experience if you want a break from the sun).

The Food Scene: A French Culinary Standout

I am highly critical of all-inclusive food. It is usually the weakest link of any resort stay, but the culinary program here completely blew us away.

During the day, we loved the flexibility. We could grab a quick, casual lunch at the Coco Cafe (which is open from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM), hit the Barefoot Grill, or sit down at Balik for an afternoon bite.

For dinner, our schedule was packed with incredible specialty options. We had fantastic 7:00 PM reservations at Vivace for Italian cuisine, Ki for authentic Mexican, and Miyakoi for Pan-Asian. Every single venue delivered high-quality dishes, but I have to give a special shoutout to the French restaurant, Rue De Rivoli.

Liz and I both agreed it was hands-down our favorite meal of the entire trip. The atmosphere, the service, and the execution of the menu were on par with standalone fine-dining restaurants back in the States.

Extreme Adventuring: Into the Jungle

We aren’t the type of travelers to just sit still on a beach chair for our entire trip. Because of where Puerto Morelos is located, you are perfectly positioned for off-site excursions. Our trip was even better when we met Extreme Adventuring Cancun for a full day of adrenaline, and it was easily a major highlight of our trip.

We booked the Extreme Adventuring: ATV, Zipline, Cenote, and Mayan Show excursion, and it was flawless. Here is why it stood out:

  • Frictionless Logistics: Round-trip transportation was completely included, meaning we didn’t have to stress about navigating or grabbing a taxi.
  • Safety First: The certified guides ran incredibly structured, professional safety briefings before we touched any equipment.
  • The Ultimate Mashup: This wasn’t just a quick one-off activity. It was a full adventure day. We ripped ATVs through the dense jungle mud, flew down the canopy ziplines, swam in a crystal-clear cenote to cool off, and capped it all off with a tequila tasting and a traditional Mayan Show.

It makes total sense why this exact excursion has been recognized by the World Travel Awards as Mexico’s Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction for four consecutive years (2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025) and has been featured in the National Geographic Caribbean Collections. If you stay at Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort & Spa, you absolutely have to book this day trip.

Nightly Entertainment (That Doesn’t Feel Cheesy)

I usually skip the after-dinner entertainment at all-inclusives. Half the time, it feels like a forced, cheesy cruise ship routine, and the rest of the resort just turns into a ghost town by 9:00 PM. But the evening shows at Dreams Puerto Morelos were legitimately entertaining.

Liz and I actually found ourselves staying for the performances—they put on a fantastic magic show and a high-energy circus show that completely exceeded our expectations.

And the energy doesn’t stop when the curtain drops. After catching the shows, we loved that the resort keeps the momentum going perfectly. Every night, the vibe shifts over to the Sports Bar and the Breeze Bar, where they bring in a live DJ starting right at 11:00 PM.

It gave us the exact atmosphere we were looking for: a great spot to grab a few cocktails, listen to good music, and actually enjoy the nightlife without feeling like we were trapped in a chaotic, shoulder-to-shoulder Spring Break mega-club. It was the absolute perfect way to cap off a day of jungle adventures.
